More ways to donate

Donate in memory
Celebrate the life of a loved one by raising money or making a donation in their memory.
Donating money to our charity in memory of a loved one supports our vital work and is a long-lasting way to remember a loved one.
There are lots of ways that you can support Carers Outreach Service in memory of someone:

  • Make a donation or hold a collection.
  • Take part in a sponsored run, walk or challenge event - or organise one of your own - look at our fundraising page for more ideas.
  • Set up an online memorial page where people can donate.
  • Hold a funeral collection - holding a collection at your loved one's funeral is a meaningful way for their friends and family to remember them.

Leave a legacy gift in your Will
With a gift in your Will, you can make a difference to unpaid carers of the future.
If you don’t yet have a Will, the following pointers may help you in the process of making one:-

List what you own

Think about everything you own (your estate and assets) and who you’d like to be your executor. (An Executor is the person that takes on the job of carrying out the instructions you leave in your will when you die. It can be a complicated job even if your instructions and property are quite simple. For example they might have to decide when to sell your property so that the people who inherit the proceeds get the most money)

Think of who you would like to include

For many people loved ones will come first, but we also hope you’ll consider leaving a gift to a charity like Carers Outreach Service.

Decide who will write your Will.

We would always recommend using a solicitor to write your Will to ensure all legal formalities are carried out correctly, and your Will is written and witnessed in a valid way. Shop around as fees can vary quite substantially when it comes to Will –writing.
Remember- without a Will expressing your wishes, your whole estate could end up belonging to the Crown or government. Write a Will to keep control.
If you already have a Will, you can update it to include a gift to Carers Outreach Service.
To amend an existing Will:-

Prepare all details.

It’s really important that you keep your Will up to date. If your circumstances ever change, it is always a good time to review your Will to make sure it still reflects your wishes.

Review who you want to include

For many people loved ones will come first, but we also hope you’ll consider leaving a gift to a charity like Carers Outreach Service.

Decide who will write your Will.

Depending on the significance and the amount of changes you wish to make to your existing Will, it may be possible to use a codicil to make your amendments. A solicitor can advise you on the best course of action depending on your amendments.

What types of gifts can you leave:-

  • Share of your Estate- after you have provided for your loved ones, you can leave a share of what remains to charity. This is known as a ‘residuary gift’.
  • A cash gift - this is when you leave an exact sum of money to charity. It's known as a 'pecuniary gift'.
  • A specific gift - it is possible to leave anything to a charity from antique jewelry to artwork.
  • A gift in trust - you can leave a gift for someone to use over a period of time. When the time has ended, the gift can be passed on to other recipients, such as a charity.

Special Occasion
If you have a special occasion coming up such as a birthday, wedding or a retirement party, you could create a fundraising page to ask for donations instead of gifts. You could equally fundraise at the event by providing collection boxes. It is an excellent way to celebrate and make a difference.

Other ways to help our service
We are very mindful that there are thousands of worthwhile organisations who depend on donations to fund their work. Donations make a world of difference but we at Carers Outreach appreciate that there are other ways you can help to make our money go further.

  • If you are happy to receive our newsletter by e-mail or view it online, please let us know. By doing this, you are helping us!
  • We believe that ex-carers require and deserve support. We do however limit this support to one year. However, if you do not require this one year additional support as an ex-carer, please let us know so we can update our systems.  By updating us yourself, this will save us money on making an annual review call or sending you a review letter.
  • Throughout the year, we arrange a plethora of events and activities.  We appreciate how stressful and time-consuming caring can be. However, if you do book on to one of our events and activities and are unable to make it, please let us know as soon as possible. Sometimes we have waiting lists for events and therefore by letting us know, other carers can come in your place. If we do not have waiting lists, we can adjust our numbers for such events and therefore are charged accordingly.
  • Your time is valuable. If you do have any spare time and wish to volunteer for us, please look at our volunteering page to find out the benefits of volunteering and all the different ways you can volunteer.
  • Carers feedback and stories are so, so important. Not only do we love reading them, we are able to shape our services with carers in mind. Feedback is a great tool for us to evaluate our services and also helps us when applying for funding.  Please keep them coming!!
